Local Las Vegas Rock Band - Bob Fisk Live at Rox
Bob Fisk had another great performance last Thursday at Rox in Las Vegas. Mark your calendars for August 31. Bob Fisk will be playing at The Bunkhouse with Casket Salesmen and mythmaker. To learn more about Bob Fisk, checkout their myspace page.
I was around for the entire show, then realized my video camera was in my truck. I ran out, grabbed it, and caught the last few songs. I got a chance to interview Brett (lead guitar and vocals) over the weekend. Check out the interview and video:
What do you do in the real world?
I’m a supervisor of Creative Services at Zappos.com. It’s a killer gig, a real hip company. They treat employees like Gods compared to the jobs I had back in Indiana.
Who or which bands are the influences behind your music?
Dylan, Black Crowes, Stevie Ray, Jerry Lee Lewis, Down, alot of Southern rock and metal bands. Skynrd, Allmans, Gov’t Mule. Hell, even Primus. Albert King and Clapton. Shit, it goes on and on.
If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be?
Red Rocks, CO. No doubt about that. The most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Call me a hippie, fuck it.
What is the game plan for the future?
I just want to build a following, get a good album made, and tour. I want to focus on recording a killer album with no digital bullshit involved. Everything is digitized now, it’s disheartening to know that cats can’t pull it off live in the studio anymore. I just want to kick some rock and roll down everyone’s throat and remind them of why we all do this….it’s not about getting ladies by wearing fucking make-up: it’s about making music that you would have dug when you were coming up, music that would have made you want to pick up a guitar. .
Where did the name Bob Fisk originate?
Our first drummer, Ben Cooper, lives off of Bob Fisk Avenue. He’s is a local man here in Vegas, I hope he’s cool with us using his name. I really like it, so I want to keep Bob happy. Bob, are you happy?
What image does your music convey?
Balls to the wall, guitar driven, manic, gonzo, high octane, hillbilly good time rock and fucking roll. We don’t really have image, I guess that’s our schtick. We’re just a bunch of rednecks from Indiana and Kentucky that get together in the same damn threads that we wore to work that day and play some music. No blue hair, mohawks or tight britches. Just guitar, bass and drums.
If you could choose 1 musician to jam and hang with for a day, who do you choose?
Warren Haynes, no doubt about that. He’s the living embodiment of everything that the blues is and should be.
